Why You Don't Want To Work At
The Clifton Jimmy Johns
If you got this far and are still considering working there, here are a
few things to consider.
First, you will be repeatedly screwed by their management.
Recently they created a plan that they claimed would raise the
level of their customer service (which they really don't care about) by
increasing the number of drivers that work at any given time so that
deliveries go out faster, claiming that drivers will make more money
when deliveries increase. This won't happen because at the time
that business increases, they will hire more drivers, thus bringing
down the earning potential. However, they are doing nothing else
to increase the business. No advertising, no specials, no
publicity. Absolutely nothing.
I guess it must be like in the movie Field of Dreams, where a spirit
tells Kevin Costner to build a baseball field on his farm stating "If
you build it, they will come." What works in the movies doesn't
work in real life. In real life it's called bullshit.
Why would they do something that would only increase the hourly cost of
labor? By reducing labor costs
by
getting rid of inside workers who earn more per hour than drivers.
There is nothing quite like reducing safety on the road by
overworking drivers inside.
The management of Jimmy Johns is a lot like someone saying, "I
really want to be a superstar in Hollywood, but I don't want to take
acting lesons, find an agent, do stuff in front of a camera or ever
appear on TMZ. It really is that Jimmy Johns management wants to
play the game, but doesn't want to pay the price of admission.
The idea behind this is why pay for labor at $8 an hour when we can
steal it for only $6? That's right, drivers at Jimmy Johns are
only paid $6 an hour. Forget the paltry 5% reimbursement when you
deliver one sandwich at $6.25 (which you get a whopping 0.31 cents
for). Oh yea, forgot to tell you that the delivery minimum is
only one sandwich. You will get a lot of those because...
Secondly, you will be repeatedly screwed by your fellow drivers.
And believe me, with very few and very notable exceptions, the
drivers at Jimmy Johns are lazy and theiving. They will steal
from you every chance they get, besides the fact that they will get the
big deliveries because they are pocketing them, with the help of
management, of course.
Let's pause for a moment and say thet you made a catastrophic error and
are already working there. You probably have had a vauge feeling
that things aren't quite right. That means your getting taken by
lazy drivers. And equally lazy management.
If you want to do all the work for lazy people and earn less money for doing so, please,
by all means, take a job at Jimmy Johns.
Want to work a job so you can get some work experience to put on a
resume? Good luck. Besides it doesn't really translate into a
good mark on your resume, you may actually get lied about to a
prospective employer. And, god forbid, if the upper management
ever does anything about theft, well, imagine what would happen if they
claimed you were stealing from the company? I know most employers
would think you were a real "go-getter." (NOT!).
Remember, working in a poorly managed company (at Jimmy Johns it really
is bad from the top down), you will always be taken advantage of.
If you have masochistic impulses, then by all means, work at Jimmy
Johns.
Eventually, I will list specific things that drivers do at poorly
managed stores to steal from other drivers. Hopefully I'll have
this up soon.
